The inclement weather has affected matches since the last edition. A brief update of the team results follows:
The season is still going very well with Saltburn Athletic Under 13’s top of
Division 6 with 27 points (9 points clear of our closest rivals). We played two successive League matches against Guisborough Town `B`. The first match saw Saltburn win 8-2, with 4 goals from Andy Turton and two apiece from Sam Kielly and Robert Ellison. The next match ended with the same 8 – 2 result. This time Robert Ellison, Jacob Waller and Andy Turton all scored twice, with Ben Jacques and Joe Turner each scoring once. Our last match was away to Whinney Banks from
Division 1 in the 3rd Round of the Challenge Cup. An injury to our goalkeeper just before kick off saw us having to hastily adjust the Side. Well done to Chris Atkins who took over in goal. The difference in experience eventually told with Whinney Banks finally winning 6-0.We are still very proud of the lads as they never gave up trying throughout the game. Martin Fowkes
UNDER 14’s
A further two matches were played. The first was an important away match at Seaton Carew who were lying third in the League. A tight game was expected however an early penalty was won when Sam Clark was brought down in the box and Alex Whiley slotted home the penalty. The team went on to create a number of goal scoring opportunities. Further goals were added by Sam Clark (2), Josh Axe and Elliot Graham. Saltburn ran out deserved 5 -1 winners which kept them top of the League. Man of the Match was shared between Alex Whiley and Elliot Graham.
The only other match to beat the weather
was a home fixture against our bogey team, Bedale, who had beaten us in our
three previous meetings. Saltburn created more goal scoring opportunities but
struggled to convert them. In the end Nathan Hayward made the important
breakthrough to put the team 1 -0 up. However Bedale continued to press and were
rewarded with the cracking equaliser in to the Keeper’s top right hand corner
from 25 yards. Saltburn left it late but were rewarded with a Sam Clark winner 5
minutes from the end leaving a mightily relieved Saltburn on top of the table.
Man of the Match was Alex Whiley.
