SALTBURN ATHLETIC ( JUNIOR ) FC UPDATE

Under 14s

Saltburn U14s are enjoying a superb season in the league and since the last report they have played a further four games.

·         An away game to California Boys was never going to be easy but a determined performance, though not spectacular, meant Saltburn continued with their winning ways. A hard fought victory winning 2-1 with goals from Alex Whiley and Sam Clark.

·         The next game was away against Redcar Town ‘B’. The Players were again up to the task and had a comfortable 3-0 lead at half time. Although the home team were allowed back into the game Saltburn ran out 4-1 winners with goals from Alex Whiley, Anthony Prouse, Charlie Whitfield and Steve Hoggard.

·         Title challengers St Francis of Hartlepool were next and a very good performance by all gave Saltburn an excellent 5-1 win in a game which Saltburn controlled throughout. Goals coming from Josh Axe ( 2 ), Alex Whiley, Steve Hoggard and Sam Clark. This was our final home game of the season and the team recorded a 100% home record. A tremendous achievement by an ever improving team.

·         The latest game was another away game in Durham against Heighington. Without really getting out of second gear the team controlled the game from start to finish and recorded a 6-1 victory which reflected the team’s superiority. There was a poacher’s hat trick from Josh Axe, Alex Whiley ( scored from a direct free kick in his own half ), a powerful well struck goal from Steve Hoggard and a Sam Clark goal in which he was rewarded for his persistence.

With three games left to play Saltburn are top of Division 4 with a healthy points difference from the two chasing Hartlepool teams.

The Under 14s ( Under 15s next season ) may be looking for new players for next season. Trials for the team will start at the beginning of May 09 and more information will be given in the next edition of the Talk of the Town. Anyone interested can contact Andy Croll on Tel : 07779 648877.

Many thanks to all our helpers and supporters.

Under 13s

Since last month’s article the weather has played its part in slowing down the season with postponements, the Under 13`s only managing to play three matches.

·         We travelled to Newton Aycliffe Youth on the 1st March. The opposition used the offside trap very well but eventually Saltburn were victorious, winning 5-0,with goals from Ben Jacques ( 2 ), Sam Kielly, Andy Turton and Jacob Waller.

·         A week later we played host to Mount Pleasant Rangers. With 10 minutes to go the score was level at 2-2, but the lads fitness finally told and we won 4-2 in the end with goals from Andy Turton ( 2 ), Robert Ellison and Jacob Waller.

·         Our unbeaten League run of 9 games finally ended with the visit of Broughton Hibs. An under par performance saw us 0-3 down with time running out. We finally woke up and scored with two late goals from Andy Turton and Robert Ellison but it wasn`t enough. The final score being 2-3.

With five matches left to play we are still top of Division 6 with 33 points. Let’s hope we stay there.
