This was a very
wet and windy day which made playing football become a bit of a
lottery. This was a first round Challenge cup match when
Saltburn u15s played against Coulby Newham B. Saltburn were to
dominate most of the game but were unable to convert some half
decent chances. Some players needed to be reminded to keep the
ball on the deck as an ever increasing wind made it difficult
for long range passing. Saltburn had kicked off against the wind
and found it hard to get any real rhythm going and it took until
just before half time when a through ball to Axe split the
opposition defence and he duly converted the chance. The second
half began with several changes of personnel. Hudson deputising
for Walters in goal came out to his usual role as striker and
Naughton went in goal. Clark replaced Waller, Blue replaced
Williams, Atkinson replaced List. Axe also was subbed. The meant
a stronger attacking line up and Saltburn were rewarded
with four second half goals with Hudson scoring two, Clark and
an excellent strike from Hoggard. The team will be a little
disappointed not having converted as many chances as they should
have. The wind did spoil the game and credit to Coulby Newham
for a stuffy performance. Good contributions from Whiley,
Atkinson (shooting not his strong point), Hudson, Graham,
Hitchen, Clark, Blue and Hoggard. Some players also need to
learn the offside rule(mention no names). A 5-0 win and win is a
win so on to the next round.
