Bishop Auckland St Marys (Home)
2-1
This was a sunny day with a very slight breeze playing at home against Bishop Auckland St Marys. We were vying for fourth spot in the league and needed to beat the opposition who were our nearest challengers.
This turned out to be an
excellent game and keenly contested with a very good
referee. This was end to end stuff with both teams
having a go and an early chance for Clark but he
struck the ball past the wrong side of the goal post.
There were some good chances and eventually Saltburn
scored when Whiley put a pressure ball goal-wards the defender tried to clear and a slight deflection
went past their keeper into the net. The Saltburn
defence then went to sleep and a quickly taken free
kick resulted in an equaliser. That was lesson
learnt to concentrate. The half ended 1-1 and was a
good effort by both teams.
The second half was as
good as the first as both teams went in search of a
goal; chances came and went and a couple of good
saves by Walters kept them out. We had our own
chances and Hudson snatched at a good chance and
missed the goal. However, he was to make amends when
a ball over the top towards their keepers right was
hammered home left foot by Hudson. This was a worthy
goal to win any game and as Hudson has had a very
lean spell up front this was a welcome sight. The
game continued and was well refereed by Tommy Turner
and was also appreciated by the opposition. This
meant for a good clean football contest as Saltburn
ran out 2-1 winners to secure fourth position. A
good team performance but it was Whiley and Blue who
shone through and shared the MOM award.
