Acklam   (Away) - 0-2   27/09/09

Today's game on Sunday 27/9/09 was away versus Acklam.
The weather gave a fine sunny day with a slight breeze and good playing conditions.
The first half began with Saltburn in control and some early chances went begging and as the half progressed with Saltburn in control we struggled to find any sort of rhythm or structure but some credit must go to the opposition for their determined defending which frustrated our forwards. Some half chances were created without an end result so the half time score was 0-0.
The second half continued as the first and again some determined play by Acklam thwarted our attacking play. As in the first half Saltburn tried to get a break through by making several substitutions. We had to wait until 10mins from the end when an excellent cross from the right by Naughton was headed home by Hudson (who got out of is sick bed to play). We were then further rewarded when Williams was brought down in the box and Whiley duly converted from the spot kick. The final score being 2-0 to Saltburn. This was a game the team will want to forget as far as the overall performance was concerned but a win and three points keeps us near the top of the division. Good performances by the defence kept Acklam out and only the very odd occasion did they get anywhere near our goal. Well done to Graham, Atkinson, Caird and Whiley our best players on the day. MOM was shared between Atkinson and Graham.
