Barnard Castle (Challenge Cup 2nd Round) -(Away)
- 2-6
On a cold day the game was played on a heavy pitch which made playing good football very difficult.
Saltburn started well and were creating some good chances and were very much controlling the game. We eventually took the lead when Sam Clark headed home and this was followed up by Steve Hoggards splendid effort, left footed from the edge of the box curling past the keepers despairing dive. Saltburn were at times wasteful and then suffered a blow when Whiley had to be carried off with a knee injury, and Wetherell duly replaced him. The half time score being 2-0. Again we continued to dominate and two quick goals by Wetherell and Hudson made it 4-0. However we took the foot off the pedal and allowed them back into the game when they scored two quick goals. The first an excellent strike from a free kick then some sloppy defending allowed a second. We then upped the pace and two goals by by Steve Hoggard giving him a hat trick sealed the game and the final result being 6-2. The man of the match was shared between Hoggard and the tireless play of Mark Atkinson.
