Saltburn  V  Wolviston  Juniors - CUP MATCH

It was a terrible Sunday morning weather wise but Wolviston arrived ready and willing to play Saltburn. The Saltburn team was also prepared. The starting line up was Dan Readman, Luke Elston, Thomas List, William Walters, Michael Daniel, Alex Whiley, Sam Garbutt, Liam Williams, David Hanlon, Anthony Prouse and James Caird. The game started with Saltburn applying the early pressure doing well to score twice in the opening ten minutes, first Prouse and then Daniel. The Wolviston team hit back twice to make it 2 – 2 at half time. During the second half Wolviston scored again to go in front, but a terrific run and shot by Prouse put Saltburn back on level terms with the opposition. Wolviston pushed forward and scored their fourth to make the score 4 – 3.
But Saltburn fought hard and were rewarded with an equaliser with almost the last kick of the game in normal time. It then went to extra time. Saltburn’s forward Prouse tormented the Wolviston defence burst  through to make the score line 5 – 4 to the underdogs. In the second half of extra time Saltburn went 6 – 4 up but Wolviston never gave up and were rewarded to make it 6 – 5. In the last few minutes Saltburn were hanging on and some magical saves by Dan Readman proved that he is one of the best keepers in the league. The final whistle blew to cheers all round from Saltburn’s spectators as the players walked off in belief and their pride restored.
