Club History
Saltburn Athletic Football Club
was organised as a community project in 1998 and in
his joint capacities as President of Saltburn Rotary
Club and the local Police Inspector, Dave Sadler was
asked to become involved.
The purpose of the venture was
not only to provide football for local youngsters
but also to provide a means, through sport, to
channel their energies into worthwhile pursuits,
rather than more negative pastimes.
In partnership with local Police
Officers Tim Raines and Andy Croll, the club catered
for children aged between 9 and 13 years who either
lived or went to school in Saltburn.
The club was formed on a proper
footing with an elected committee, Chairman,
Secretary and Treasurer. A bank account was opened
with Barclays of Saltburn in the name Saltburn FC.
The club was formed from scratch
and therefore needed to accumulate the equipment,
kit, pitches and general funds needed to take part
in competitive football.
In 1999 a team was
entered in the Teesside Junior Football Alliance in
the under 13 age group.One
of the boys went on to play for Hartlepool and
England at Under 15 level. One boy signed for
Scarborough at Under 15 level.

For the 2000/01 season the club
merged with the Saltburn Ladies Team. They were
then entered into the Northern Women’s Regional
League.

Season 2001/02 saw us enter an
under 13 (boys team) in the Teesside Junior Alliance
so in that season the club had three teams competing
in the various leagues.

In truth the club had enough children taking part in training (two sessions a week in Saltburn Leisure Centre) to form an under 11’s team also. However, there were only so many helpers to go round. At that time there were approx. 80 registered players aged between 8 and 25 of both sexes taking part at some level.
In 2003 due to other commitments
Tim Raines left the club to be replaced in quick
succession by Phil Gallon, Derek Whiley and Bob
Scott who established an under 10’s and under 11’s
boys team. In 2005 having reached the upper age
limit with his team Andy Croll reverted to running
the under 11’s.

After gaining promotion to the first division of the Ladies Regional League owing to ill health and work commitments both Dave Sadler and John Simmons were no longer able fulfill their commitments. The Ladies team therefore moved on to play for another club in 2005.
During the time we have been formed we have taken parties to games at the Riverside Stadium and weekend tournaments in Cleethorpes and Southport. We have also recently hosted our own tournament in Saltburn which was a huge success.
